That's right...we are now residents, so that means that what we do around the island no longer makes us annoying tourists. We live in Hawaii...I don't think it has really sunken in yet, but it sounds really great!
Well, our house is really no more put together than what was accomplished on the day the movers brought everything, but that's ok. Between working, sleeping, and going out with Nora...nothing gets accomplished, and it feels great.
Nora and I spent all of Friday tour Waikiki...shopping, touring, and scouting out surfing places. We are going for surf lessons bright and early Monday morning, and I am so excited! Overall, Waikiki is pretty disappointing, unless you are really REALLY into overpriced shopping. We were both anticipative to get to the International Market Place...but to our great dismay is was just 40 or so jewelry booths showing the exact same cheesy island-wear. Definitely nothing international about it, that's for sure. We made it to the beach, and that was wonderful...nothing better than stepping into the water and NOT have chills go up your spine.
I have been working all weekend, so Adam has been doing a great job playing tour guide. They went snorkeling up in Pupukea in Shark's Cove (one of the best places EVER!), hiked to the waterfalls in the Waimea Botanical Gardens, and hit up the little Farmer's Markets at the North Shore. It is WONDERFUL to share this with people...it's is just such an amazing place!
On another note, I finally have my physical for my job on Tuesday morning, so hopefully that means I will be starting my official job by Sept...not that I will be doing anything different, but I will have a full 40 hours a week, and a lot more pay. Need all we can get to afford all of our activities.
Adam and I are looking into getting SCUBA certified within the next couple of months...and he is chomping at the bit to get to that. VERY exciting news about that, is finding out that I can actually go and learn myself. With my ears, and having to wear the earplugs, it was not possible because I couldn't equalize the pressure....but this amazing dive shop in Kailua just started carrying these earplugs that let you clear you ears! I was practically doing backflips in the shop, it was AWESOME!
We have both already found the surf boards that we want too....Adam's is a 10-footer (can you imagine!?!?!) and mine is 7.5. Now we just have to get them and install the rack on my Jeep and we are GOOD TO GO! Then comes the ocean kayaking....definitely a full plate :).
THE BEST NEWS IS....our awesome neighbor Tom called Animal Control and they actually responded to him, so the mother hen and her TWELVE (yes, seriously twelve) chics have been captured and carted off. So atleast the grass will now grown in our yard...now just to get rid of the 4 roosters and we will be all set.
