Hello, we are the Mayers.

We are a couple who are passionate about living a meaningful life filled with awesome relationships with real people, exploring new cultures/cities/countries in this huge yet small world, eating incredible food, and experiencing all the things that life has to offer.

Madrid: Day 4

Another beautiful day of no plans, no goals, and meandering through Madrid. One really impressive thing about this city, that definitely could not be said about other European cities, is that it is so clean!

A random walk, a random neighborhood.

Mercado de San Miguel

Ok everyone, get out your pens and paper and write this down: If ever in Madrid, go to Mercado de San Miguel!!! It is one of the MUST VISIT locations in this city. It is a grocery store/market/cafeteria/all-things-edible-and-awesome! It is a really large building housing many different food vendors and is the perfect place to go if you don't know what you are craving or to experience all things amazing about Spanish cuisine! We actually went back here twice to eat and we NEVER EVER do this when we travel.

Jamon = ham = happy husband

Yeah, I don't think the FDA or the health inspectors in the US would be down with this...but I can promise you that this society is surviving and thriving.

Carving as you order

Please stop taking pictures and let me get something to eat...seriously.

My heart wants to have an apartment in Madrid

Adam takes such great random picts...me trying to figure out where we have ended up on the map

This was the first trip that we have taken where I didn't have everything planned out; what I wanted to accomplish each day, a list of things to do, a guidebook in hand to determine where to go, and it was nice. Not planning really took all pressure off because there was nothing to accomplish. We would just wander aimlessly for the most part, knowing what general direction we wanted to head for a given day, and periodically check in with the map to make sure we were not too crazy off course

Mmmm, GELATO TIME! Tiramisu flavored of course! Though it was better in Italy...

How about these apartments?

Plaza de Santa Ana

Adam's wonderful photography skills...as the sun sets

What ever time of day, what ever shade of light, it's a beautiful city

More delicious paella...you wouldn't think that there could be so many variations of rice-y tastiness

Plaza Mayor at night

Unfortunately for this trip, we only ended up at this Plaza at night, so the picts do not even begin to show the magnificence of it. There are painted murals on some of the walls, as well as some tile, and you cannot see it at all. If you are making a list, this should be on the daytime to visit list...though it is quite magical at night as well. This truly is a city that comes alive at night!
