I hosted a nice farewell happy hour for one of my Heme/Onc MDs, who was about to be deployed (again!) to Iraq. I just thought it would be nice to have a relaxing evening to celebrate her and wish her well on this deployment. Being civilian I don't think we realize how much these people go through for us, it's easy to see it on the TV (the war in Iraq and Afghanistan) and then go about our daily live unaware and unaffected. Working for the military though, I see on a daily basis how this war is affecting my co-workers, my friends, and their families. 90% of the people in the photographs here are active duty military, willing to put their lives on hold to take care of us. I know that I could never make that sacrifice, but I am grateful that we have amazing folks who can...so this is why we recognize, and celebrate. Tonya is one of the two Peds Heme/Onc MDs that I work with...when she gets back Jeremy (the other one) will be leaving to replace her in Iraq. Please send some prayers her way that she stays safe, as well as to all of our soliders and their families.
