The Days of Long Ago
How swiftly, silently the moments fly,
till years, like winging birds have hurried by,
and we, whose paths were laid, once side by side
find chance and change have borne us far and wide.
Yet often, when amid new scenes we stand
we find that memory with magic hand
can quickly lead us back, through time and space.
To see again some old familiar place.
To sing once more the songs we loved so well.
To feel once more sweet youth's own mystic spell.
To meet again the friends we use to know,
and live again the days of long ago.
The years may come and go and bear us far,
for time may part our ways, and fate may bar,
but miles can never hide, nor years destroy
one happy memory, one treasured joy.
For tender ties of friendship will endure,
will link our hearts with bonds both sweet and sure.
Will bring us back through well remembered way
to live again the unforgotten days.
